Enter Celeste

In early October Hilary and I were walking down 8th Street across from the Marine Barracks, passing a pet store called Howl to the Chief. It was adoption day and a group of dogs rescued from high-kill shelters in North Carolina were out on the sidewalk being cute. We had seen this before. But this time there was a medium sized brown dog with crazy ears and the sweetest eyes I have ever seen. We took her for a walk and fell in love. Within a week she was ours.

She has been great. She gets us out for walks more often, and got us used to looking after something else. She is cozy to curl up with on the couch and when she chases her tail it makes you laugh no matter your  mood. The little mischief she has caused has been more humorous than annoying.

Hilary was already in preliminary labor when we took her for our last walk together. That evening we went to the hospital and Sophie Lee was born the next day. Here are pictures from that day:
